Is your baby ready for weaning? If your child is already six months old, then it’s time to change the usual routine of milk preparation or breastfeeding, and add the solid food preparation in the daily schedule. Because babies are very sensitive, organic baby food recipes would be perfect for them. So, get ready to check on weaning information from fellow mothers, your child’s pediatrician, or from the website. Make sure to buy organic food to give your babies the best.
As a parent, it always excites me to see newborn babies and watch them grow. My sister-in-law is now weaning her first son. After explaining her the benefits of giving organic baby food, we started experimenting on new organic baby food recipes every week.
Some foods to try for the beginner are:
- Apples
- Pears
- Bananas
- Avocado
- Carrots
- Sweet potatoes
- Winter squash
- Green beans
- Brown rice
- Barley
Do not feed your baby protein or dairy at this point.
Mixing Foods
Once you have introduced these foods and there has not been a reaction, you can feel free to mix them. Mix these ingredients in equal proportions, adding breast milk as needed to thin the consistency. Consider:
- Sweet potatoes and apples
- Brown rice and banana
- Pears and acorn squash
- Green beans and barley
- Green beans, barley, and carrots
- Bananas and kiwi
- Oatmeal and peaches
- Apple and pumpkin
- Avocado and banana
- Avocado and brown rice
Vegetable and Grain
Use carrot, swede, parsnip, sweet potato, broccoli or cauliflower.
- 180g vegetable of your choice per serving
- 20g grain (Holle Organic Rice Porridge or Holle Organic Millet Porridge)
- 1 tablespoon organic sunflower oil
Boil the vegetable in unsalted water until soft, drain and purèe the vegetable in the stock. Add the porridge, bring to boil again, remove from heat and add the sunflower oil. Wait until cool down and served.
Apple & Pear
Core and cut into quarters 1 ripe pear and 1 eating apple. Grate very finely, blend and mix together.
Variation as milk free fruit porridge (from 5 month):
Boil 70ml fresh water, allow to cool to approx. 50°C and pour into a dish. Add 2 tablespoons Holle Organic Porridge of your choice and 100g pureed fresh organic fruit or jarred organic fruit (especially handy if you go out or have no fresh fruit to hand)
