Savannah's World

Ok, now that I've finished up my proposal, I figured it was about time to update Savannah's World!!  Micah and I went out to Christopher's tonight to celebrate that (along with some good plays in the stock market - yay Micah!).  Stephen and Ann kept Savannah.  (Thanks!)  We had a great time and the food (as always) was sooooo delicious!  That gumbo with gouda grits is to die for!!  Savannah had a good time chasing after their cats and kept saying "ca."  She was grabbing Ben's hair like she grabs daddy.  Thankfully Ben took it pretty well!  She's been walking all over the place too...and she's VERY steady now.

We were supposed to go to Hot-lanta this past weekend, but wound up not being able to go at the last minute...  It sucked not getting to hang out with my friends there, but we still had a good time watching football in Auburn.

We met Valerie & Wade for dinner on Friday night with Savannah.  She did pretty good until 8:00 hit and then she was just ready to get in bed.  She sure let us know!!  There was a baby behind us though and they kept trying to talk to each other.  Valerie brought Savannah over there to "talk" to her and it was cute!  She kept wanting whatever we were eating...and I gave her some of the bread and some crackers.  She loved it.

On Sunday we went to Montgomery and went out on Lake Jordan with Micah's family on their new pontoon boat.  It holds 15 people and we sure had a boatload (Micah, me, Savannah, Papi, Gran, Jared, Marcus, Amy, Bailey, Morgan, and Jay).  We were just missing Sara and Laurie...but we still had a GREAT time!  That was Savannah's first time on a boat and she LOVED it!  She was humming/singing as the wind was blowing by her.  She loved looking down at the water.  Jared put her behind the wheel for a little while and she sure didn't want to let go!  She was having a blast being in control (imagine that!).  We saw some deer on the shore, so that was pretty neat.

This week we haven't done a whole lot.  Savannah has gone to Children's Day Out two mornings this week though.  I think she's staring to get used to it.  She doesn't get as freaked out anymore about being left.  So, that makes us feel a little better about leaving her from time to time.

Micah and Savannah are heading to Montgomery tomorrow and I will probably work on school stuff.  I can't believe it's only 21 days until Savannah's FIRST birthday!  It was chilly and rainy today, so I'm not sure if a birthday in the park will be a good idea.  I may try to find an indoor location that works better.  We'll see.  A girl from the mom's group is going to make Savannah a "first" birthday dress and I'm so excited!  It's soooo cute, and I can't wait to see it all put together.  She's really done a GREAT job.  It's dark and light blue flowers with yellow accent flowers.  It's going to have a yellow gingham jacket to go along with it.  I know it's going to look great together!

Well, I hope that everybody has a great week.  Take care!

Yep, I've been bad about writing lately.  I had some school stuff this week, so sorry!!  Well, it's official.  Savannah is WALKING!  She hasn't been too interested lately.  She has been able to walk, but it's like she's been too scared to try.  But today she's been going crazy!  I think the most I counted at one time was 22.  She gets so excited with herself when she does it too.  It's totally cute.  I've been trying to get some good pictures of her, but whenever she sees a camera she just has this dumb look on her face like she's trying to figure out the camera...so forget smiles.  My camera has a delay too, so whenever I THINK I've caught her with a smile, I find out that I'm too little too late!  Oh well!

Stephen (my cousin), Ann, and Ben (2 years 4 months) came over tonight to watch the Auburn game.  Man, that was a close one!!  It had me biting my nails till the end!  They're LSU fans too, and unfortunately we caught the end of that game as well.  Let me just say that I'm impressed with Kentucky this year!  Who would've thought!!  We had a great time though.  Savannah was walking and squealing and kept trying to see what Ben was doing.  She loves hanging out with older kids, so it was cute.

Savannah is starting to get a little bit of an attitude.  We can tell that she's trying to test her limits too.  She kept pushing a ball underneath a chair and then hollering at me to get it out.  That game didn't last too long...haha...  She HATES when she's not supposed to do something though.  It's like she becomes obsessed with whatever she knows she's not supposed to do and she'll fuss at it b/c she wants to do it.  For the most part she minds pretty well though...but sometimes she'll get that stubborn streak and continue to disobey!!  Wonder where she gets THAT from!!  HAHA...

She's gotten a lot better about bedtime.  I've started rocking her and singing to her for about 10 minutes to wind her down and then putting her to bed.  She usually hates to be held, so for the first few minutes she's pretty aggravated and fidgety.  But she eventually calms down and then starts to wind down.  I put her in bed while she's still awake, but usually she just rolls over and doesn't make a peep after that.  It's a nice change from her crying herself to sleep.  I never used to rock her in the past because she was so squirmy, but once we get past that stage it gets better.

Micah and Savannah came to work with me on Friday afternoon.  We didn't have much going on and lots of folks were out, so it was nice to have them there.  I showed her off around the halls and she took a nap in her stroller.  She loved seeing everybody, but wasn't too sure about anybody else holding her.  She's definitely getting into that attachment stage.  If it's not mom, dad, or somebody close to her holding her then she's not happy.  It makes getting a babysitter not so fun.  She used to just go to anybody and everybody, but now she wants US around.  It's flattering though.

When I came home for lunch today Savannah was waking up from her nap.  She was in the BEST mood!  She was soooo smiley and laughed practically non-stop.  Micah says that's how she always is when she wakes up from her naps.  It was the cutest thing!  They took me back to work and she was just as happy as can be riding back there, talking, laughing, and looking back at me.

My good friend from high school (Elizabeth) came over tonight with her son, Bramm.  He's a little over two years old.  He and Savannah played well together.  He was really sweet with her, giving her the ball, her sippy cup, etc.  He would put the puzzle pieces in and Savannah would immediately take them out.  He was upset about it at first until Elizabeth made it seem like a game where he would put them in and she would take them out.  I was trying to pick up a little bit before they got here and as soon as I would put books, toys, or clothes in their appropriate bin or basket, little Miss Savannah would come RIGHT behind me and take them all out again.  It was a neverending cycle!  I finally just gave up for the most part.  Hopefully she'll enjoy putting toys up as much as she loves taking them out in a few years!

Tomorrow Jared and Laurie (Micah's brother and sister-in-law) and their kids (Jay 6, Morgan 8, Bailey 10) are taking Savannah to Greenville to spend the night with Laurie's family.  That will give Micah and I a night to ourselves, so we're really looking forward to it!  I know that Savannah will have a blast down there with all of them.  She LOVES spending time with her cousins.

We took Savannah to Kroger today after work.  She rode in one of those little cars that's in front of the cart.  She loved it.  It's close to the floor though, so she got tired of being "down there" after we had been in there for a while.  Micah was down the aisle getting something and she kept smiling so big and waving like crazy.  Of course, everybody thought she was a cutie pie!

I gave her a bath when we got home and she started REALLY splashing for the first time.  She's done it here and there, but tonight she was really slapping the water and making big splashes.  It would soak her face and she would be sputtering and smiling at the same time!  She thought it was the funniest thing.

Right now she's pulling all of her clothes out of a bag.  This girl cannot stand to have toys, books, or clothes in any sort of container, basket or bag.  One of her favorite things is to pull EVERYTHING out of the bag or basket and fling it on the floor.  Sometimes I put all of her toys or books away just to give her something to do for a while.  She loves going through paper or mail too.  She will look at each piece for a few seconds and then fling it to the side.  What a mess!!

Well, I'm going to go read her a few books before putting her down for the night.  Hope everybody has a great week.  :-)

Today was Micah's dad's birthday.  We went to Montgomery and all of Micah's family (siblings, parents, nieces & nephew) spent the day at the park.  We fed the ducks, sprawled out in the shade, threw the football, and walked around.  It was so much fun and was the most gorgeous day!  Savannah LOVED the ducks, swans and geese.  By the end of the day she was saying "duck" nonstop and every now and then it sounded like she was throwing in a "quack."  There were lots of dogs there too, and she would do her woofing noise when she saw one.  Her cousins had a great time too.

After the park we all went to the Olive Garden and had an excellent meal.  We were there for a LONG time and it was getting close to her bedtime, but Savannah did surprisingly well.  She only had a 30 minute afternoon nap too, so I was a lil' worried.  She enjoyed the breadsticks.  She passed out on the way back to Auburn.

She is definitely taking more and more steps.  She's getting braver now and doesn't have to be coaxed into walking.  She took a few steps from the ottoman to the couch today without anybody being near her.

Well, it's bedtime for momma, so ya'll have a great week!!  Oh yeah, and WAR EAGLE!  Wow, what a game!!

 9/29/2007

We've been watching football games most of the day and Savannah has been all over the den.  We have a green soft blanket and she keeps crawling up to it and wallering in it.  We've been playing peek-a-boo and throwing it over each other.  She loves that.

Savannah LOVES banging on the keyboard and looking at the computer.  Well, I found some computer "games" for infants.  They're really cute and she loves them.  Whenever she hits a key on the keyboard a little animal pops up and says "peek-a-boo" and then there's another one that goes through the alphabet with animals starting with that letter.  Whenever she hits a button it goes to the next letter.  She thinks they're the best thing!

That girl is obsessed with beer bottles and cans!  I think it's because we won't let her get them and she can't stand anything that's "off limits" to her!  If she knows she's not supposed to do it or have it...guess what she wants to do or have!?!  Can't wait for those teenage years!!  Haha...

She's been walking more and more...not across the room or anything, but she's been building up her confidence.  She doesn't immediately plop down anymore and will take 2-4 steps here and there.  We clap for her and she gets really excited and has started clapping for herself too.  It's so cute!

Well, the AU Tigers are about to get kicked off and I've got a lil' girl who wants a night cap.  So, War Eagle!!

 9/28/2007

Greta and her son Ashton (4 years old) came over for about an hour or so after work.  Savannah and Ashton were both being pretty shy at first, but they warmed up quickly.  I played ball with Ashton (he was head butting it to me) and Greta mostly played with Savannah.

Savannah gets so excited now when you say pattycake and she immediately starts clapping her hands.  She has this new thing now where after she claps her hands she puts both of her hands behind her head.  It's the weirdest, but cutest, thing.

She's been saying "cat" a lot lately, for pretty much ANY animal.  We have an animal book for her and just about every page was a "cat."  She does know what a dog does though.  When you ask her what the puppy dog says she does this grunting/huffing noise that is supposed to be a dog barking.  She loves ALL animals!

She's gotten a lot better about going to bed, so that's been very nice not to have to hear her crying for a while before she nods off.

Micah and I are looking forward to staying at home with just the three of us for a change.  It seems like we've been burning up the roads here lately between all of our traveling and going to Montgomery.  So, we're going to chill out and watch some football and play with little "D."  I'm going to really work on getting her to walk tomorrow.  She is soooooo close and gets excited about taking a few steps here and there but just can't quite get the confidence yet to keep going.  It's going to happen soon though!

Well, I hope everybody has a nice weekend.  War Eagle!!

 9/25/2007

We took Savannah to lunch at the Golden Corral because I had another thing to go to there for a student.  She had a cracker in each hand and was trying to eat the broccoli off of the table with her mouth (no hands)!  She also enjoyed a bowl of mandarin oranges that I got for her.  She is in the "let's throw everything I can get my hands on on the floor" phase.  I feel so sorry for any waitress that has to come behind us because it looks like there was a food fight!!

Savannah had a play date come over.  I met Ruth and her daughter Eleanor through an Auburn Mommy's group online.  Eleanor is about a month older than Savannah.  They had a great time together.  They were so sweet trying to feed each other goldfish and attempting to play ball.  Eleanor had a "spill-proof" container of goldfish and Savannah proceeded to carefully dump them all on the floor and both girls were crawling around eating them off of the floor!!  They didn't quite understand why they couldn't share sippy cups (haha), but other than that it was a lot of fun to watch.  This was the first time that Savannah had really played with anybody her own age, and both of the girls really seemed to enjoy it.  Savannah has played with her cousins (ages 5, 8, and 10) and Ben (2+ years old), but they're quite a bit older than her.  Hopefully we can get them together again soon.  I should've taken a picture, but I didn't think about it.  I will next time.

Valerie & Wade kept Savannah while Micah and I went out to dinner at the new Santa Fe restaurant.  It was delish!!  Wade, Val and Savannah had a blast...they went for a walk, read books, and played big time!  She loved their dog, Jake!  Of course, she loves ALL animals, so that wasn't surprising.  She was sooooo excited to see us when we got back.  It was really cute.  She kept kicking her legs, flapping her arms and smiling so big.

Savannah also took a few more steps while Micah and I were watching her.  I was glad that Micah got to see that.  Any day now she's going to be taking off!

She has become infatuated with the stairs.  If she can get to them, she wants to be on them, crawling up them...and even better if she can have my keys in her hand.  It's so funny...and she's so quick too!  I don't know why in the world she likes to tote my keys around, but it's like that's a prerequisite for going up the stairs!!  Silly girl!!

 9/23/2007

Well, little Miss Savannah did NOT enjoy riding back to Auburn from New Orleans.  She made it quite clear that she wanted to be out and about instead of buckled down in her seat!  I made the mistake of giving her my phone to play with in an attempt to settle her down.  Well, she decided to slobber all on it and shorted it out.  So, I wasn't able to make or recieve calls...only text messages.  Moral of the story: don't let the baby chew on your phone!

Fortunately though I was able to get an early upgrade for an extra $20.  So, I'll be sure to keep this one out of her reach...even though she's totally obsessed with phones.  She can't STAND for anybody to be talking on the phone around her.  SHE wants to be the one with the phone.  And it doesn't help to give her a phone that isn't on or working because she can dang sure know the difference!!  She loves pushing buttons when somebody is on speaker phone...such a mess...but a CUTE one!!

 9/22/2007

Savannah took FIVE steps on her own!  She was watching Uncle Jeff whistle and let go of the coffee table and started walking towards me.  My parents saw her too.  It was so cute!

She also said "ni ni" for night night for the first time.  I was telling everybody "night night" before she went to bed and she said it plain as day!!

She drank out of a straw too...even though it did shock her a little bit.  Haha...
