What s a reasonable schedule for baby naps? It changes as he grows older. In the first few months, he needs a lot of sleep and will most likely nap three times a day, each nap lasting an hour to an hour and a half. He will stay awake only for two or three hours between naps (although he’ll keep you busy for those couple of hours).
From five to nine months, he’ll cut out the late afternoon nap or merge them into one afternoon nap. Both naps, morning and afternoon, will last probably an hour or hour and a half each, separated by four hours or so of up time.
After his first birthday, the early nap drops out, and then he’ll need only one nap a day. He will, though, doze for two hours or longer. A late morning-early afternoon rest is ideal, since this will allow him enough time to run his batteries out to get to bed at a reasonable time.
